The argument that he needs to support a Microsoft ( or Intel Based )
application stack for customers does have some weight. It's hard to
convince new customers to buy IBM i in spite of the TCO, reliability, etc.
I like the idea of using IBM i and DB/2 to back end the application and use
whatever language he chooses to build the view. C# in that case would work
nicely to allow both a desktop and mobile interface. I have no reason to
discount Delphi other than the number of students learning it in the 2 and 4
year schools is not nearly what is learning PHP and/or C#.

My own choice would be PHP so the code is reasonably transportable, can do
the mobile and full screen in one language and has excellent support on IBM
i. PHP also would allow a Microsoft Intel stack as well as the traditional
LAMP stack.

Subject: 'green screen' not sellable

I was talking Friday with an owner of a company that has billing software
for a particular industry.
Where there are frequent, government and insurance changes they have to
apply.

Their software is based on RPG. He said they want to rewrite in C# because
they cannot sell to new customers.
OK fair enough but do you think C# based is the way to go? Secondly he said
that they will keep the data on the IBM I.

Actually I have been working with mobile apps lately connecting a desktop
system using Delphi and I was thinking this might be a better way for them
to get their product to the public relatively sooner. Taking a complicated
old database from ibm I and trying to fit in C# I think it hard but what
are their choices?
