You'd be correct. The new Access Solutions works well, albeit with all the
quirks of LAN console. Its footprint is way smaller than the old client and
it's faster.

Subject: Re: Chromebook as a console

LAN Console is not a simple 5250 thing. It's a separate program. I assume
it's included in the new java version of Client Access but it uses TCPIP
with a special certificate (internal stuff) to bind that specific machine to
a QCONSOLE device. I haven't used the new java stuff but i'm positive
tn5250 or x5250 solutions will NOT work for LAN Console. (normal 5250
sessions should be fine)

Best Regards,

Roberto

On the java note, if you just need 5250 access, I'd see if tn5250j
would run on it and if you can make that the console display. Also if
they run a standard X`11 server, then tn5250 or x5250 are good options.

Can you run java on it? If so it should work. Copy the IBM i Access
Client Solutions .jar file on the thing and crank it up!

Could I use a Chromebook as a console to a new Power 8 server

LAN console.
