Not sure why you think it's Scott's example...

It's not I pulled it off some other web site and changed the data to
represent customers.

It is not intended to be complete as far as what's required. Just a quick
and dirty example of a JSON list/array.

with all due respect for Scotts example it is only the half truth.

As you can se my client code is rather simple while the server code
is not so simple.

This is due to Apache and the Mime format.

Apache only converts what it receives to EBCDIC if the Mime header is
Text/... otherwise you have to do it yourself.

Many web services requires a content-type Application/... and then you
have to convert the input and output buffer yourself.

To add to this the Mime header (content-type etc) has to be in EBCDIC

You could have a web service return a XML, JSON, text, ect. document
that
contained a list or array. An example in JSON might look like:
"customer":

[
{ "id": "5001", "name": "Tom" },
{ "id": "5002", "name": "Charles" },
{ "id": "5005", "name": "Mike" },
{ "id": "5007", "name": "Doug" },
{ "id": "5006", "name": "Sue" },
{ "id": "5003", "name": "Kim" },
{ "id": "5004", "name": "Kristy" }
]
