I just downloaded the latest ACS version from ESS, my file name ends in LCD8_2010_09.
What do I need to change to call the newer version, my shortcut is still calling Version 1.1.3 Build id 4260, June 24, 2014?

OK, so after a bit of digging the latest version of the IBM I Client Access for Windows IS on ESS.

The latest verison number is 1.1.0.12 (not listed anywhere, except in the download itself), and the download file name ends in LCD8_2011_04.

It was built in May of 2015 (which is why you find a note about it, but no version info) under the following URL in the June 2015 section: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/access/solutions.html

The release cadence of the package is said to be the same as the Client Access for Windows package. So if you go here: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/access/windows_sp.html

You can see that the next release is scheduled around December 2015.

So once you see a new IBM I Access for Windows release, you should be able to go to the ESS site and download the latest Access Client Solutions for Windows.

Clear as mud? :-)

I did talk with IBM and they are entering a suggestion to put version # and download information under the release notes on the following page: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/access/solutions.html

Thanks, I think we found the crux of the issue. Our ESS setup is a bit hosed, listing old customer #'s, old machine types.

Clearing that up now and hopefully will be able to download the latest ACS for Windows installer package.

Kinda wish they would publish updates to that via the past mechanism (put on IBM ftp).

Hi Matt

The ACS website clearly says this -

"These optional packages are only available for download on the Entitled Software Support (ESS) <https://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/ess> website under 5761-SS1 or 5770-SS1. Physical media is not available for these optional packages."

I don't know if the RFE process is the thing to use to ask for a change in this - you can certainly go to http://requirements.common.org and put in a requrement.

And you can ask Phil to submit something, too, right? :)

Cheers
Vern

Exactly. But does anyone know, is it on ESS? We have problems getting into ESS, it doesn't list all our products. So before I spend hours with IBM trying to rectify that situation I would like to know if ESS is the only place to get it.

It was so much easier with the IBM I Client Access days, just go to FTP and get the latest service pack and install.

His question (as I understand it) is where to find the updates. I can't imagine you have to download the complete installer from ESS every time there's an update.

Matt, if you go to the page Jim cites here, you will see what is in the product. ACS has always been basically 5250 and data transfer and spooled file viewing.

The OLE DB, .NET, and ODBC driver/provider stuff are in platform-specific packages - one for Windows and one for Linux. These are additional-cost items, IIRC.
