First, if you've got the space on your system I would avoid them
altogether and just use "image catalog" entries as shown at:

I seem to remember IBM being particularly picky on DVD media for the HMC.
Apparently IBM favored an older media due to the perceived reliability.

As far as burning IBM i media I have no problem using up this stack of
DVD-R media I have.

You could try searching Infocenter for DVD-R like this
