My backup this morning resulted in 13 entries:

Source/Sink : 6
Tape support: 5
Damage set: 1
Error analysis: 1

And, two storage management entries from 12:11 and 12:40

I have no idea what the last two entries might be related to.

The "Damage Set" is simply a side effect of the Source\Sink Tape failure related to the [failing] tape device activity. In order to ensure the tape device is reset to a known\good status, prior to the next reference to that device, the device gets marked as "damaged" by the LIC; recovery from the /damage/ condition must be performed prior to further use of the device. The requests first to vary-off and second to vary-on-with-reset [VRYCFG ... RESET(*YES)] should recover the /logical damage/ condition [aka /soft/ damage] to the device; a condition of /hard/ damage would be recoverable only by deleting and then re-creating the device.
