Someone also mentioned FTP - quote rcmd sbmjob etc. is really simple - IF it is allowed!

For the archives, perhaps - quote means run the following on the server, rcmd is remote command, and what follows is any CL command string.

For more information, in an FTP session on the i, maybe to loopback, type ? server and you'll see lots of what can be done, as well as setting. Type quote help rcmd and you'll get information about RCMD on the server.

What are the different ways to submit a job from one iseries box to

I was looking at SBMRMTCMD, but the Help text says it is mostly used
for managing data base files on the remote system.

I just want to issue a SBMJOB command on remote system. I don't
expect any output of that command to come back to the originating
system

Unlike the Submit Remote Command (SBMRMTCMD), the Run Remote Command (RUNRMTCMD) does not require a Distributed Data Management (DDM) File [and thus the DDM connection for the requesting job, for which the Reclaim DDM Conversations (RCLDDMCNV) may be desirable to know of as well]. Of course that reduced burden for activation may not override the possibly ill-perceived nuances of the workings of the latter; but merely for effecting a SBMJOB request, the RUNRMTCMD is much more succinct.

If DRDA is established, the SQL can be used to invoke a stored procedure; that stored procedure could be a CL interpreter that accepts a command string; e.g. the Submit Job (SBMJOB) request.
