I appreciate all the replies. Regarding CD-ROM packaging, my inclination is
to distribute products as single *SAVF files, downloadable over the
Internet, 50 Meg in size, or less.
Regarding IBM's Software Product API's, I want to read more about them. I
have a slight inclination to use LODRUN and my own installation routines
instead of RSTLICPGM.
Part of my concern is that I don't really understand how PTFs work. I
prefer the term "deltas" or "changes" rather than "fixes". My personal
experiences with PTFs is mixed. I tend to order and install them in 4-6
month intervals. I don't understand why the downloads are so big. They
occasionally "break" something. The HTTP *ADMIN Instance is one product
that PTF's have "broken" several times, for example. I'd like to understand
the PTF process better.
Regarding IBM' licensing API's, they seem to support concepts which are
geared mostly to prevent unauthorized use of software, whereas I'd like to
encourage use of products.
I agree that "deltas", and "fixes" need to be easy to install, and back-out
if they don't work.
