Upon further reflection you're right.

Filea with members B and C.
Sql that wants to insert into C.
RPG program gets SQL, File A, member C. Create alias tempxyz on A(c).
Run sql on tempxyx. Drop alias tempxyz.

Yes, and I think I can do this in pure SQL..
