Read the Knowledge Center at
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_72/rzal2/rzal2unipl.htm?lang=en
You can replace "ibm_i_72" with "ibm_i_71" or 61 if you need to.
Expand this:
IBM i 7.2>IBM i and related software>Installing, upgrading, or deleting IBM i and related software>Replacing Licensed Internal Code and IBM i of the same version and release Select Replacing software of the same release using manual installation You might be able to just do:
"Complete the tasks in Replacing the Licensed Internal Code "
and skip " Replacing the IBM i operating system".
You should do "Installing PTFs for the Licensed Internal Code and the operating system ."
You will need a new I_BASE_01 cd. Make sure you have the latest "refresh"
or "resave".
For more information on "resave" see:
http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/i/planning/resave/index.html
To download a new I_BASE_01 cd you can get one from ESS or "Entitled Systems Support" at
https://www-304.ibm.com/servers/eserver/ess/ProtectedServlet.wss
To get a copy of the latest cume ptf, and the latest group PTF's, see "Fix Central" at:
http://www-933.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/
If you do not feel comfortable with this you may want to contract this out. People like Pete Massieola (sp?) and Larry Bolhuis pay their bills doing this stuff. I've done a little side work doing this myself.

Thank you Rob!
Currently I am watching the status codes on the control panel.
The power light is solid green.
After a few minutes off jet fans they have gone a little more quiet.
The Attention light turned yellow/orange.
The code is now showing now is B6000901.
B6000901
Explanation
The LinkLoader has found its bad flag ON.
Response
This reference code is usually the result of a system termination while
the LinkLoader is performing its work.
Reinstall the Licensed Internal Code by using Utilities to install and
restore IBM i Licensed Internal Code .
Guess there is more reading to do today.

Your Model May Vary (YMMV)
However, according to this:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/8286-41A/p8haj/p8haj_controlpanel.htm
A flashing green power light means the unit has power but it is in standby
mode. Basically, it is powered off! This will have a drastic effect on
the behavior of TCP/IP (to say the least).
Did you ever do the functions I suggested to get it to display your
console type?
Using the console service functions (65+21)
https://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_71/rzajr/rzajrfunctions6521.htm?lang=en-us
Yes, it is sad that
IBM i 7.2>Basic system operations>Starting and stopping the
system>Starting the system>
Assumes that the system is already started.
Then again, this is not an AS/400. It is a Power system running IBM i.
One cannot assume that IBM i is the only OS on it and that there is only
one lpar of IBM i. Therefore you have to go into the "Hardware
Information Center"
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/
Expand "Power Systems"
Figure out what genre you have, Power 6 for example. And verify that by
expanding it and seeing if your model is in it.
Even if you go through all this, you will not find "How to start this BAMF
up".
Normally one attaches a Lan Console, or an HMC, to one of these and uses
that to start it up.
So the trick is, you expand the section "Working with consoles, terminals,
and interfaces for POWER... processor-based systems" where ... is the
genre of Power system you are running. That's about the only time you
touch the buttons. (Yes, I'm back to that...) This is where I went to
get the explanation of the light.

Thanks for confirming that Chris.
So back to the question...
When the function 2 is set to manual mode= 'M', why does the control
panel not show function 3?

No a 710 does not have a key. You can stop looking for the key.

Thanks Chris
I just read this in the document provided yesterday.
1. If your system uses a keystick, insert it in the key slot.
So I used those terms.
2. Place the system into manual mode by using the system's control
panel.
I do not think there is one on the IBMi Power 710 Express.
But when I changed function 2 to be manual = "M" and the function 3
did not become available.
I started thinking there might be one I am not seeing and it was not
allowing the change to go through without one.
