This is along the lines I was thinking. I may need a vendor approved device though, so if anyone knows of a vendor device interface as well that would be appreciated.

Here is an idea to get the thread going. With an Arduino or Raspberry
Pi, I can toggle real world things with the help of relays. There are
thousands of web pages describing how to do this. Once you have a
gadget that can turn the alarm on and off, connect the gadget to the
network. This is arguably easier with a Raspberry Pi. Run a little
program on the Pi that listens on a socket and use IBM i to send to that
socket.
