Java 1.6 is full of holes and other stuff. IBM recently sent out a
critical "get this now, huge publicly known security hole" java alert. I
think it had something to do with shutting off a common form of encryption
which may cause you no end of grief with sites expecting you to use crappy
encryption.
Once you put this PTF on you may have to whitelist crappy forms of
encryption.
Actually one alert affected java 6,7,8.
