With the incremental benefits of TR's, it would seem to require some pretty significant new features to deserve a "new version".

But Steve has in fact said things at public user group meetings like "I
like the sound of 7.3 it just seem right...."

I'm liking 7.3.

Hey Paul

This is just someone lacking for something to write about. It's not
worth looking at, IMO - I've been in meetings with Steve and Alison,
with NDA signed, and they're not saying anything firm about version
numbers.

The author, whom I've had some good dealings, just doesn't REALLY know
anything about this - lots of guesses, lots of noise.
