Even if RPG isn't necessary, the IBM i is. And you can't run .NET on
the i (recent efforts to open-source .NET notwithstanding). So the
idea was, even if you're eliminating RPG from the picture, you'd still
want something that at least runs on the i. Java, Python, and Node.js
are some of the things that are known to work on the i.
