I have long loved the irony of IBM internal systems not being part of the
"Smarter Planet" initiatives they promote for your own business.

I rely on a business partner, partly because they know the "discount"
programs available at the time of transactions, but mostly because IBM's
tools for configuring systems and ordering software are so poorly designed
that it's simply impractical to order anything yourself. IBM would suffer
from embarrassment if they were to show their internal systems to the
public.
