To pile on just a bit. Most of the folks on this list use DD occasionally
to get PTF/Groups, maybe an LPP.
Larry, me and others are doing it nearly weekly, and live with that awful
product. Now when a new OS or LPP comes into play we have to download it,
get it on to our machines, learn it, (do unto yourself before doing unto
customers....) and such.
Then again, PTFs and groups are a breeze, we use FTP and it works great. We
even have most of it automated so when the email shows up, it just goes and
gets the stuff and builds the image catalog. Not so much with LPPs since
that junk software has to get into the middle.
It cannot be a licensing thing because at the beginning of the download you
could be forced to acknowledge everything (before it gets to the download
site) just like they do with PTFs etc. It's just plan stubbornness on
someone's part to make it hard.

SPOT ON. DD Sucks, has sucked, currently sucketh, has always sucked, and
will suck into the future. And I don't like it much either. My shop vac has
less suck than DD.
Even when it works it's not very friendly. As Jim pointed out it's trying to
out-think you on saving downloads etc. But that extra work to figure out
where those other copies are and getting all together takes way longer than
just downloading again.
Perhaps when we were just leaving Modems for DSL etc it was reasonable but
heck many have triple digit even quad digit speeds these days. Just make
with the FTP already!!!

Sorry to hijack the thread ... but I really wish they would come up
with an alternative to Download Director.
With the number of vulnerabilities that are constantly being found in
the Java applet plug-in, I find that I have to upgrade Java every time
I need to use Download Director.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion.
