I think I've asked this question not so long ago but at the time we were
running LTO4.
We're converting over to a Data Domain VTL.

Has anything changed with Power 8 firmware, IBM i 7.3, etc to allow meto
configure redundancy?
Have a look at this:
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/IBM%20Removable%20Media%20on%20IBM%20i/page/Tape%20Multipath
Scenario:tape.
VIOS21 lpar has a 577D card for fiber tape
VIOS22 lpar also has a 577D card.
My AIX lpar, running TSM, has both configured, virtualized through these
vios lpars.
My IBM i lpars, running BRMS, only uses one vios lpar to virtualize

Fiber from 577D goes to a switch, then to 3576 tape library (being
replaced by Data Domain unit, today).
