I'm on 7.1, and I've never had any luck getting long share names to work. I just have our Windows team create additional shares with shorter names.

Subject: QNTC having long share names
Does QNTC still have the issue where accessing a system with long share names can have sporadic results?
For example, if I attach to a Windows server with something like /qntc/myserver/myshare
But myserver also has these shares:
- I love big names and for this I cannot lie
- once upon a time in a galaxy far away
- when I was there I wanted to be here but now that Im here I want to be there then simply accessing /qntc/myserver/myshare can work sometimes and other times not.
Notes:
... the share name can be up to 12 characters long...

The share name can be up to 12 characters long.

Ensure that all Windows based shares are 12 characters or less in length.
This is a permanent restriction as it causes the Windows server to return
a 3406 error code from the SMB transaction.

I've got one server where 12 of the shares have the first 25 characters of
their share names in common.
