A handful are being created with type of 3179.
Why?
Probably some attribute deemed necessary, as established by
[configuration choices, probably made by user of] the client emulator,
for that 5250 session of the emulator; e.g., and most likely in the
described scenario, 132-wide [27x132->3477] vs 80-wide [24x80->3179].
Could this cause a problem if QPAVDEV* with 3179 is chosen in place
of a 3477.

The device selection will not select an incompatible device, and the
effect for named selection will implicitly [¿per autoconfig?] modify the
device [but IIRC, as Rob found long ago, using the actual QSYS/CHGDEVDSP
command interface]. So likely, there would be no problem; I can change
between those attributes on every system to which I have access, and
always get the respective device TYPE established, without ever
encountering any difficulties or errors.
