Do you ever have lines of code between the write and the read?

The only time I can think of when one wants to continue using the write/read doublet is when you are using an auto-refresh feature and want the ability to refresh at timed intervals, or to interrupt the interval at any time. http://www.martinvt.com/Code_Samples/Kiosk_Clock/kiosk_clock.html

Also, you don't want a write and read. You want an EXFMT.

Why? I don't like EXFMT. I prefer a write and a separate read. I
like being able to say "this section of my program handles all output and
this section of my programs handles all input -- and ne'er the twain shall
meet." All my programs are written this way and they work perfectly.
