9/30/17 is my guess also.

Someone probably based that off the ridiculous length of V5R4, which
actually lasted longer than V3R2 (for pretty much the same reason).
Maybe they are also included those extended service contracts? Which
isn't as bad as they used to be but still paying quite a bit for less than
optimal support. Kind of just to be able to say "it's still supported".
Look at the cume cover letter:

<snip>
The next cumulative package is scheduled for 11 Nov 2016.

IBM promises a year's notice on End of Service.
See "Note 1" at
http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/i/planning/upgrade/suptschedule.html
V5R4 and 6.1 both lasted 7.5 years.
If the pattern holds we should get a notice of end of support for 7.1 any
time now announcing end of support for 9/30/2017.
This is all guess work based off of
http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/i/planning/upgrade/suptschedule.html
and is totally not based on any insider information. Really. I mean it.
And I'm not winking, crossing my fingers or any other such thing.
