Oy! Well said, Rob!

Matt keeps refusing to stop looking at LUW in order to find support for SQL on IBM i - then calls anything that is not the same a deficiency.

Your suggestion, Rob, to submit a single-issue RFE is on point - that general requirement has been discussed enough with IBM, and parity just is not going to happen - it really should not! For several good reasons, including differences on the platforms. I mean, why isn't he asking for parity with the Z flavor?

There are usually workarounds - I did a quick Google (LMGTFMatt) that had this hit from 10 years ago:

http://www.itjungle.com/fhg/fhg052406-story02.html

There is a sample there of an SQL function that can use an API the system has had for at least 10 years.

An RFE to ask for might be to add to the system services

OK, enough - vacation tomorrow!

Cheers
Vern

There's this thing called "Knowledge Center". It allows you to look up
information like this. You can find it at:
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_73/rzahg/welcome.htm

Drilling down into it you can look up the Create Table statement for IBM i
7.3 at
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_73/db2/rbafzhctabl.htm
Then you can page down into "column definition" and a hair further into
"built-in-type". In there you will see the options for timestamp.

Also, you can look up Database, Reference, SQL Reference, Language
Elements, Data Types, Datetime Values, and in there you will also see
timestamp.

If you fail to see what you desire you can submit a Request For
Enhancement to get what you want. Sure there's the generic "bring IBM i
DB2 up to parity with LUW DB2" but it may be helpful to submit one for the
particular part of DB2 you want.
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/
Change "All brands" to "Servers and Systems Software". Change "All
products" to "IBM i".

Let's say this is in 7.3, or IBM agrees to add it for you in some
reasonable time frame, would that matter since you aren't running 7.3? Or
is this "the one issue" that would make you upgrade to 7.3? You aren't
just baiting the bear, are you?

Does anyone know if 7.3 perhaps supports this SQL: CREATE TABLE tz(tstz TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE); Right now on 7.1 it doesn't seem to work. Works just fine on DB2 LUW versions of DB2.
