Get a set of wire ID sticky labels. Label the slot the cable plugs into, and the end of the cable that plugs into that slot.
This means that every cable should have 2 different labels, one on each end. And there should be no possibility of mis-identifying anything!
Or so it says here in the instruction manual!
Assuming you re-rack everything with the same spacing between units, even the aged-in bends in the cables should still be good!
Of course, you'll need a few new cables because they don't like being moved! (;
