I have edited the message file that is in the QOPS library to show what each option is for. It would be interesting to grab the version info and update it "automagically".

Perhaps I should just learn to read! Here is a snippet from the Group PTF cover letter:

Includes:
- Option 1, Node.js v0.12 for i
- Option 2, Python 3.4 for i
- Option 3, Chroot and GCC for i
- Option 4, Python 2.7 for i
- Option 5, Node.js v4 for i
- Option 6, Git for i
- Option 7, Tools for i
- Option 8, Eclipse Orion for i
- Option 9, Cloud-Init for i

I don't know how much control you have over the way PTF's install and update the LICPGM information but what would be REALLY nice is if instead of this:

5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 1
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 2
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 3
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 4
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 5
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 6
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 7
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 8
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 9
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 10
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 11
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 12
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 13
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 14
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 15

I would see this AFTER I install PTF's:

5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions
5733OPS *INSTALLED Option 1 - Node.js v0.12 for i
5733OPS *INSTALLED Option 2 - Python 3.4 for i
5733OPS *INSTALLED Option 3 - Chroot and GCC for i
5733OPS *INSTALLED Option 4 - Python 2.7 for i
5733OPS *INSTALLED Option 5 - Node.js v4 for i
5733OPS *INSTALLED Option 6 - Git for i
5733OPS *INSTALLED Option 7 - Tools for i
5733OPS *INSTALLED Option 8 - Eclipse Orion for i
5733OPS *INSTALLED Option 9 - Cloud-Init for i
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 10
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 11
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 12
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 13
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 14
5733OPS *INSTALLED IBM i Open Source Solutions Option 15

The replacement of the "placeholder" descriptions would be an indication that it installed. But having a script that ran after the Group was applied that indicated the version levels of ALL IBM OSS would be pretty sweet...

DOH! I get the *need* for multiples....I just wish the "what is
installed?" question could be answered more easily...

Thanks for the heads up. I shoulda known....

Pete, Node.js v4 lives side-by-side with Node.js v0.12:

$ /QOpenSys/QIBM/ProdData/OPS/Node4/bin/node -v
v4.4.3

v0.12.13

If you want to change /QOpenSys/usr/bin/node to point to Node v4,
there's
a script to do that:

Better luck than I had with my 7.2 partition. Applied the latest
Group
for 5733OPS and didn't get a node.js update (still 0.12.13), haven't
checked the other apps (long day....Zepto ransom-ware attack on the
network) I think Aaron has a version in the 4.xx range.

I wish there was a better way to check on what versions of all the
OSS
components were installed. I guess I could write a script that could
output node -v, python -V, etc to a text file....The current method
for
checking that all is well...um, needs improvement.

To complete the thread I did get all of the V7R1 available tools
installed

work below as because the environment this is installed in was a
normal V7R1
partition without any of the deployment mechanisms IBM has built so
that
update script was not applicable.
