Honestly, I'm not sure.
They may only allow the D mode IPL to use 'hardware' stuff and totally
keep you out of OS stuff like resetting the OS qsecofr password.
I can see that being a security breach. I can IPL from virtual media and
never enter my machine room.
not that you're interested in this (because for one thing IBM would want a
shovel of money and would start squawking over OS licensing, etc and would
take a month or more) but I believe there's a back door that IBM personnel
can do to fix this but it pretty much involves everyone else leaving the
machine room.
