Got a PMR open with IBM. It's happening when not able to connect to the
remote FTP site to download our customer orders. Checking with them now to
see if they're having issues.

This sounds right for an online ordering process. There may be a socket
doing a wait.
Scott Klement has a tutorial on sockets programming. I'm guessing you're
using a package for this.
You could see the suggested "select()" for additional information. Hint:
they are NOT talking about an SQL select.

I would imagine that the job is sitting on TCP/IP on port such and such
waiting on socket such and such for someone to say "hey, I've got money to
burn and are you willing to take it?". And then when someone does place
an order it's on that like <politically incorrect comparison deleted> and
that's when your CPU utilization goes up.

Subject: What does it mean when a job is in SELW
Sent by: "MIDRANGE-L" <midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

The subject says it all. We have a job in SELW.

I found this online:

"SELW: The initial thread of the job is in a select wait. More
information
on the select() function is in the Sockets APIs chapter in the APIs
topic collection in the Programming category in the IBM i
Information Center at http://www.ibm.com/systems/i/infocenter/.

"Generally you do not have to do anything. The job is just waiting for
some
activity before it continues. Many times it is an IBM job. We have a bar
coding application that will put jobs in this status while waiting for
someone to scan something.-- "

We're not "barcoding" in this app. But that doesn't really make any sense
to me. The job that's waiting is an online order coming in, so it's
pretty
important. Normally 100+ orders a day handles this way. It went to TIMW
for a short time, now back to SELW.

V7R1, current on PTFs. BRMS save while active backup is still running
because IT didn't start at the normal 3am. CPU is at 98%+.

Help!
