I've no argument with that focus; personally I think that IBM i is THE
strength of the platform. Having said that, Java runs just fine in IBM

It may be controversial of me to say it, but Java is pretty seamless
with RPG and IBM i.
I don't want to derail the thread with a language war. I only want to
point out that it is very easy to integrate RPG and Java using only IBM
i commands that I can put into CLP and RPGLE. I have no need to CALL
QP2TERM whatsoever. I reckon the difficulty level is about the same as
'extend a page at a time' subfiles, or AFPDS printing with graphics, and
I come by that opinion by dint of actual experience deploying software
into production.
