Like with the Java issues check the DNS. This is one of those times I tend
to break the DNS only rule and put these addresses into the host table.
Every time I've see behavior like this it has been the Exchange server.
Once the SPF records were hosed up, but mostly it's one of the hundreds of
check boxes in Exchange that are checked or unchecked that causes the
problem. I never know which one it is because I doubt the Exchange admin
knows either.

Subject: smtp retry when high volume
Currently forwarding smtp to an Exchange server.
Stress Test indicates either Power i or Exchange is processing 20 emails,
and then the qzmf log shows retries and the next 20 get processed, retries,
next 20, etc.
I suspect the Exchange is doing this, but the person who set it up is not
around. ..
I don't see any parm in SMTP Attributes to account for this behavior.
Occasionally may send many hundreds of emails - any recommendations (other
than dump the Exchange server - it's already been suggested) ?
SMTP Attributes has retry parms
Retries by minute: RTYMIN
Number of retries . . . . . . 99
Time interval . . . . . . . . 6
Retries by day: RTYDAY
Number of retries . . . . . . 0
Time interval . . . . . . . . 0
Retries by hour: RTYHOUR
Number of retries . . . . . . 48
Time interval . . . . . . . . 1
