Just when I think I'm out....
No I'm not saying any solution presented must be open source. That's always the authors choice.
I was really just commenting on the fact that he was showing a code example of how to generate PDF from HTML. However it never really showed the PDF part. Just a single mention of a call to a PDF conversion tool black box.
If the intent was to showcase his proprietary method of HTML to PDF then fine. If the intent was to show a complete example on how to do HTML to PDF conversion to the general development public then it's not complete with even a mention to the HTML to PDF utility being used behind the scenes.
As an author I'm sure you know about providing complete source examples with honorable mentioned where needed to a utility.
Based on a quick search of the midrange archives I'm pretty sure he's using the open source Flying Saucer code unless he's written his own thing. For anyone who wants to check out this project for HTML to PDF:
https://github.com/flyingsaucerproject/flyingsaucer
If I get a chance I'll do a little wrapper example since it looks like Aaron Bartell's code download is no longer available.

Yep, if you're attempting to teach people, provide code samples that
can be downloaded, compiled and incorporated. This is the new age of

I hate to get involved in this thread as it's gone on and on... but I don't quite agree with this... are you saying any solution used in an example needs to be open source?
With WebForms it's not public domain code. PDF filling is part of the
product.
Hmmm... Wasn't that what part of Nathan's solution was? I believe it was referred to as a "black box". If his black box makes the solution simple, it's most likely worth the price to license it.
Well the year is off to a cold start. -8 here in MN today. Yeesh.
Our house was popping nails all night! (Anyone who lives in the cold probably knows what that means...)
