Your terminology is a little confusing to me. "SAN" just refers to a
storage network. Well, what goes into a storage network? Answer: Any
kind of storage device. SSD is a storage device. They can go anywhere
a hard drive currently goes, whether internal or external.

The term "flash" refers to the low-level memory storage technology
employed by the vast majority of SSDs. Basically, it's nonvolatile
memory chips. "Flash drive" is almost synonymous with "SSD" these
days.

So there are currently hard drives in both SANs and used as internal
storage. The article is saying that soon hard drives will be gone from
SANs, all replaced by SSDs; and that hard drives will hang on a little
longer as internal storage, but that eventually those too will be
completely replaced by SSDs.
