Our network admins approached us because they are getting flooded with ARP errors at their Cisco switch that is originating from our IBM i NIC. Error is "ARP-3-INVAL_HDR_HRD_TYPE".
Doing some research on this I found this one post "Great post, found same problem on iSeries (AS400). Default ethernet setup sends 802.3-SNAP and Ethernet 2 arp frames. Need to delete and recreate ethernet line, setting "ETHSTD(*ETHV2)" to only use Ethernet Version 2."
Looking at the Line Description and the ETHSTD() parameter it has values for *ETHV2 and *IEEE8023 and *ALL. Ours are setup to *ALL which I assume is the default since I don't remember ever touching this parameter before.
Question I have is has anyone else done this and did it cause other issues? Do I really need to delete the line and re-add it to change this parameter? I do not see it as a value I can change with I use CHGLINETH. We have three active lines and all are set to *ALL. Just means needing to take down communications during off hours if this does require the deletion of the line description to change it.
Thanks
