I concur. yesterday I went to see a new customer that had a dead AS400
(yes, a model 150 with only 2 drives and not mirrored). They have the same
software (with upgrades done by a consulting programmer) that they
originally wrote for that machine and they had no need for more. They are a
prime candidate por the IBMini that the IT Jungle article mentions. They
were still using v4r3 and old COBOL and RPG. As long as those programs
migrate without much problems they could use a smaller, cooler machine.
The customer base exists, whether they finally make it or not is a
different tune. Even the express edition machines are hard to sell in this
country, especially to those kind of shops that are so small and have so
little need for iron that the only reason for upgrading is a hardware
failure or an SSL algorithm mismatch...
