If you're not partial to IBMi-only I would recommend learning Microsoft .Net  as an option. 

If you want the bleeding edge learn Node.  PHP would be my next choice. 

And then Java, but Java seems to be passe these days, but it's powerful.

Either way you can learn for free if you're a hands on learner.

And the list goes on...... :-)

Hi Richard,

Some will tell you which language they think you should learn, including among others Python, PHP, etc.
I would suggest you might want to learn some new tooling to develop modern applications on the IBM i.  For example, check out LANSA,  BCD, or Profound Logic just to name a few in no particular order.
