Yes, doing what you are doing will confuse the compare operations which
verify that you've not modified the file on the target.

I've suggested that we look at offloading data analysis by doing it on the
target machine instead. Thought this would be a good time since we're
implementing Cognos, etc. They feel that the main machine has enough
horsepower that offloading it shouldn't be needed. Besides, we bring the
target down every night to do the backup from that. They don't want to
schedule around that. Also, I do my scheduled maintenance on the target
machine midweek during office hours, once a quarter. Who wants to
schedule around that?

So, yes, I understand what you are trying to do.
