Note that if the file is journaled, there will be journal entries to indicate an ALTER TABLE (or CHGPF) took place, and exactly what was modified in the file definition, so that remote journaling and replication software can apply the same changes on the target system(s).

Your idea for some kind of new indicator or flag to indicate "definition changed outside of source" is interesting and might make a nice RFE...
