I had this a few years ago when I inherited a machine from another company. Our IPs and subnets were totally different than the other company.
I had to open a case with IBM and spent quite a bit of time with the Ops Console expert in Rochester who was able to use the front panel buttons to let me set the IP address of the console, etc. and get me going.

Subject: Re: dont know ip address for lan console or ethernet line
the machine is up and running. the ip addresses for both the console and
the regular ethernet connection could be anything.
i tried the locate console option. i plugged my pc and the iseries (lan
console) into a router. i set my pc for a 192.168 value since i believe
that was the last address used for the iseries. I hit the search button,
but it returns nothing.
It almost seems like i need to do a reload (have the cd's) to reset
everthing back. or is there a way to reset from the control panel?

Um, is the machine on?
And, it's been so long since I've had to push a button to start a machine
but are the lights indicating it's running, or in standby mode?
