I was able to set up a message, but I couldn't figure out what it was supposed to do. Now I get it, it's backwards than what I was thinking it was for.

My problem is, the messages that come out of our SFTP client software all have severity 00 even when there is an error, like a file or directory not found. I want the job to fail if that happens. I'd rather not have to write 100's of CL programs just to make this sensitive to errors.

Dana,

We are using this feature.

20. How do I set monitor for messages for commands in the command list?

On the General tab of the job properties, select the command you want to add messages to monitor and click Properties to the right of the Command box. From the Command Properties dialog click Messages. Enter the message ID and click Add. This will add the message to the Enabled Messages list. When you are done adding all the messages, click OK.

It simply allows the job to go to the next sequence, even if it had an issue. (the message you are monitoring for)

Not all messages can be monitored for.
All CPF messages can be.
I've run into some non CPF messages that cannot be monitored for, thus the job fails.

We also needed to insert logic if a certain condition was encountered.

I accomplished this by creating STRWCH , created a WCHPGM, etc.

Paul

Subject: Advanced Job Scheduler Messages to Monitor

We are working on a POC to automate a bunch of manual functions using IBM i Advanced Job Scheduler. Many of these jobs will be file transfer jobs and I'm experimenting with putting all the transfer commands into a job's 'Command List'. Since the commands I'm using don't return any severity over 00 even if an error occurs, I'm trying to use the function in AJS Command Properties called 'Messages to Monitor'. The description in the KC says:

Each command in the command list of a job can have message identifiers that are used for monitoring. When the job runs and an error message is issued that matches one of the messages entered for the selected command, the job logs the error but continues processing with the next command in the list.

I've coded a message number that gets generated from my commands, but I don't see where this 'Message Monitor' does anything.....

Is anybody using this feature and knows what it really does?

Dana
