I ran a simple cl with the DMPCLPGM and I still get nothing.
... I am going to read the link you gave me just a little bit more carefully.

Yeah, I was just reading the link you gave me and it seemed that ...

-To obtain a CL dump, complete one of the following tasks:
-Run the Dump CL Program (DMPCLPGM) command. This command can only be used in a CL program or CL procedure and does not end the CL program or CL procedure.

...would be enough.

I am going to try a simple CL like yours and see if that works. I am wondering if being in a MONMSG block is somehow preventing the DMPCLPGM from performing as expected.

I did read that wrong. I missed "one of the following".

This worked as intended on a 7.3 lpar with latest cume and groups

pgm
dcl &myvar *char 5
chgvar &myvar 'a'
dmpclpgm
endpgm

Variable Type Length Value
&MYVAR *CHAR 5 'a

Value in Hexadecimal
* . . . + . . . . 1
