What is the goal here?
A) Save time switching between tapes?
B) Run multiple saves to multiple drives at the same time?
C) Something else?
Honestly I would use the unit as a library and reference tape cartridges
which the library will then load as requested. This can be your code or
IBMs BRMS for example. Very flexible and can use both or either drive.
To answer you question directly yes you can partition the library and by
default it will allocate the left magazine to one drive and the right
magazine to the other drive.

We have tape drive 3573 L2U on our new system. The tape drive has 2 drive heads and 2 tape magazines. Our system sees it has 2 tape drives.
Is there a way to setup the tape drive so that all the slots on the left
are for one drive and the right side is for the other drive? Also to
have it use the tapes sequentially? We run multiple weekend saves and
want the tape drive to use the tapes in sequence.
