Yes you can install Data Studio stand-alone if you wish, if you install it after RDi it will replace the Data perspective in RDi with Data Studio

IBM Data Studio is free, whether you use RDi or not I believe.

With Rational Developer for i (RDi) license is IBM Data Studio included.
Will that be an alternative?
