Two different operating systems. The names of those two operating
systems have been as follows -- and I may be missing a few:

OS/360 ==> OS/VS ==> OS/VS2 ==> OS/MVS ==> MVS/SE ==> MVS/SP ==> MVS/XA
==> MVS/ESA ==> OS/390 ==> z/OS

DOS/360 ==> DOS/VS ==> DOS/VSE ==> VSE/SP ==> VSE/ESA ==> z/VSE

VSE is a mainframe guest OS that apparently runs under Z/OS.
Previously it used to run under VM. We ran VM/VSE on an
ES9000 for a few years :)

z/VSE cannot run under z/OS -- only under z/VM or standalone in
its own mainframe LPAR.
