We had a user-defined SQL statement which lacked the "NOT FENCED" option.
SQL spawned a second thread and in which it tried to send an inquiry
message. This is not currently supported. So the job log generally fills
up and terminates the job. However, it has crashed the system. A job
completely failing and terminating does not seem reasonable. However a
system crash should be totally avoided and avoidable.

Please take a look at this RFE:

https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/execute?use_case=viewRfe&CR_ID=105162

and vote for it to show support for keeping the system stable.
