OK. Time now for me to see if I can follow instructions. I have a utility program I use to allow a dropdown box on a 5250 screen. It seems a likely candidate for being a service program. Dropdown box <http://www.martinvt.com/Subfiles/Dropdown_Box/dropdown_box.html> is a 20-year old application and has a data file, a display file, and an RPG program. The data to be shown are valid payment terms.

*** A program to display a dropdown box, with mouse pick. * Features: * - If a parm is used then a mouse click on an item will * return the clicked item as a choice. * - The first line displayed is always blank and provides * a means for adding a new PaymentTerm to the list of payment terms. * - If the program is called without a parm then the file * is in full Edit Mode and any lines may be changed or * deleted. So... I wish to get out of the 1990s and create a service program named DropdownBox_PaymentTerms****. What would be a recommended organization for this? **

A very nice illustration of what makes 'thinking in functions' so powerful.
