of replies with an idiomatic resignalling example. In my opinion, this
is indicative that there isn't an idiomatic resignalling example to be had.

I've seen a lot of CL, OCL, and even JCL over the years, and it's my
personal experience that these programs/scripts percolate errors only
rarely, and not as a matter of course. I'd go so far as to say that
most midrange jobs simply fall over with 'white messages' and let the
operator/help desk deal with the fallout.

Error 'handling' for the most part seems to be limited to monitoring for
very common messages like

dltf qtemp/somefile
monmsg cpf2105
cpyf prod/somefile qtemp/somefile...
ovrdbf somefile qtemp/somefile
call hll...

If there's an error message idiom, that's what it is.
