Recursive SQL (OLAP processing) comes in handy when trying to create a Bill of Material (BOM) in a manufacturing environment as it allows for a "drill down" capability where you start with a finished product and drill into the assembly's detail until each individual component is known. This results in the complete Bill of Material.
But I used it in a previous life in an insurance company to drill into the history of policies to discover what coverage was in force at the time of a claim.
So it can have many applications.
With IBM's SQL OLAP support, writing these becomes pretty straight forward.

Subject: Recursive SQL on the i
HI I was interested in how you might be using Recursive SQL on the i.
From what I have read on the IBM web site on this topic,. it seems most used in very large enormous, complex, data sets.
My way has always been to break the task into smaller manageable parts.
Perhaps someone who really knows can explain this better.
Thank you,
Joe
