Just tossing a trial balloon out here. Would there be support for an
RFE
asking for variable-length fields in CL? Like a varchar data type?

There is already support for it -- but not an explicit data type

(if that is what you mean). What I mean is there is support for
variable
character definitions without having to use %BIN to build or use them.
The
following is an example. But, yes, you still have to use %SST to get
the
actual data out of the second variable shown below. A specific data
type
would eliminate even that.

/******************************************************************************/
/* Structure for AD Mail Address (See LDAPCS_GetEmailAddress in
UTLDAPCSV) */

/*----------------------------------------------------------------------------*/
/* &AD_MADDL is the length of the Active Directory Mail Address; and, */
/* &AD_MADDR is the returned Active Directory Mail Address. */

/******************************************************************************/
DCL VAR(&AD_MAIL) TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(66)
DCL VAR(&AD_MADDL) TYPE(*UINT) LEN(2) STG(*DEFINED) DEFVAR(&AD_MAIL
1)
DCL VAR(&AD_MADDR) TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(64) STG(*DEFINED) DEFVAR(&AD_MAIL
3)

I said "out of the second variable" but I meant "out of the last
variable". I also should have stated that I am in favor of an RFE
requesting an explicit data type of *VARCHAR for CLLE.

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
