Jack,

True enough! I've tried it and it works well.

Our customers usually insist on the source code staying on the system we are
working on, as opposed to us downloading it to our systems to do the work
(RDi is the exception to the rule there) so Orion is an excellent way to do
that, without having to endure EDTF.

Now that BASH is available and VI is on the system we use those occasionally
too if the web instance for Orion is problematic to the customer. I'm
hoping VIM is announced and supported by IBM soon, and yes we could download
it and get it running but it's not the same....

If you want to edit IFS files remotely, jEdit with the FTP plugin works. It
supports SFTP. I use it all the time.

I don't think it will ever get to the point of replacing RDi, that's
too powerful of a development tool.

Orion is great as a web based editor and we use it a fair bit, the
restriction being you have to use the IFS for source. (at least I've not
found a way to use source files yet) Mostly we use it for quick fixes
and a bit of Node.js development.

Looking through the upcoming TR3 information, I saw something about
Eclipse Orion. It talks about support for CL, RPG, DDS, and UIM. Is
this some kind of web based RDi? Is it designed to replace it in the
future?
