Question
If that is in fact the answer - does that mean that any program
using that procedure needs to be re-compiled?

Yes. Almost any change to the parameter list format requires all
callers to know about the change. About the only change that would be
transparent to the caller is adding an optional parameter to the end of
the parameter list -- which I've done without recompiling the world.

Oh, and even that would be a problem if there is a stored
procedure with other than a general parameter style using that parameter
list.

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
