Jack,

I know your done with trying the restore from tape.
I did this once many moons ago, I don't remember all the details.
Something rings a bell though, that I had to tell the system what the "Alternate restart device" was.
On the HMC, I pointed to the fiber card that was controlling the tape library.
Does this make any sense?

Paul

Hi Jack

not sure if this approach will pick up any customisations of system
values etc. might pay to check that.
SAVSYSINF/UPDSYSINF might be in order
Just a thought....

No, but all locations use the same "tape" products.
We were an IBM LTO4 FC media library shop. Now we use EMC-DD2500
media libraries. And yes, full bare metal BRMS restores were tested.

Did you (have the experience of | run into any weirdness doing)
backup
on
a
SCSI single drive then restoring from a FC-attached tape library?

I did not use any special tapes, categories, etc. I just used a
normal
BRMS full system save.
I used these to do an unload/reload to new hardware, following
the steps outlined on a BRMS recovery report.
Now, there are even some BRMS fluent people who wouldn't do it
this
way.
However I found it a darn good way to validate my saves, and the
recovery
reports.
I did this with several LPARS on three different Power systems.
