As far as the network side of the house...
We have a program on IBM i, which talks to a Windows client, which then
talks to a Windows server which automatically changes our dns to point to
the new box. Now, I've not yet figured out how to force a flush from one
DNS server to our others so that a ping at other locations changes over as
fast as a local ping, or a
nslookup myibmi dnsserver1
equals
nslookup myibmi dnsserver2
in a timely fashion.

We used to have IBM i go directly to the Windows server with DNS but
something about remote command directly from IBM i got really tightened
down on our Windows servers and it was easier to set up a client to do
this than convince them of an exception.
Has worked fine for several switches.
